A Door Snail (Clausiliidae) on a tree trunk in Gamlingay Wood, Cambridgeshire, England.

Possibly a Plaited Door Snail (Cochlodina laminata - Montagu, 1803) based on the discription of habitat and distribution found in A Guide to Snails of Britain and Europe Pfleger and Chatfield, ISBN 0600557898. It seems that few species of Door Snail are found in Britain and most prefer limestone rock habitats rather than woods.

The colouration doesn't quite match the illustration in Pfleger and Chatfield and I'm not sure that the shell was sufficiently translucent. However, its not far off the photos at http://www.bioimages.org.uk/HTML/R32113.HTM archive copy at the Wayback Machine bioimages].

Keywords: Snail, Door Snail, spiral shell
